VeteranOn Friday, November 11th, 2016 at 2:00 pm, Westhoff Elementary held it's Veteran's Day Assembly to pay honor and respect to those service men and women are have or are currently serving.  During the Assembly we had the Boy Scouts and Mrs. Climer with the Flag Cermony, Singing of patriotic songs by the Choir Club, The 5th Grade Orchestra played TAPS, as well as the introduction and recognition of each family member in attendance who served/is serving in the military.

We also gave recognition to Margarita Springer for her work with the USO with some of the donations from Treats for Troops as well as Christie Wolfe with her help in collecting the Treats for Troops donations.

Treats for Troops takes candy donations that are then made into care packages for servicemen and women overseas.  Mrs. Wolfe, Westhoff’s Guidance Counselor, has been heading up the collection efforts.  We split the candy so that some of it will go to the USO and some will be delivered to the local church in St. Charles  whom assist in preparing these care packages.

Westhoff families have also donated Kleenex, toothbrushes, toothpaste, puzzle books, candy and treats, deodorant, soap, and chapstick to put into care packages for military around the world.

We collected:

Nearly 300 pounds of candy

Over 600 personal care items (Kleenex, toothbrushes/paste, Chapstick, etc.)

Over 50 free time items (crossword/word search books, decks of cards)

Over 400 letters/pictures
